- Recently work was began in the area west and north of Salem on a series of three phase line conversion and tie lines on an existing feeder circuit out of our West Salem substation. Following a solicitation for the project the work was awarded to Underground Utilities Contractors Inc. Initial work began during July of this year and will begin at the substation and proceed north towards Highway 72. Upon completion of this phase of the project additional work will be performed along Highway C west of the intersection of Highways C and 72 northwest of Salem. The work being performed will increase conductor size for the circuit feeding these areas and provide increased sectionalizing capabilities for our system. These series of projects are to be completed during the fall of 2010. During this time members served in these areas may be subject to scheduled outages as necessary to facilitate the construction. The scope and duration of these outages will be kept to a minimum and approved only when necessary to ensure the safety of personnel performing this work. Also if you are traveling in these areas please be aware of signs and flagging personnel associated with the project. Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciated. See map
- Earlier this year we announced a group of system improvements in the Roby area of our system. The projects were for circuits originating from our Roby substation and feeding north to the intersection of Highways 17 and AW and west to the town of Plato. A total of twenty (20) bids were received for these projects with the contract award being made to Underground Utilities Contractors Inc. Construction on the projects is scheduled to begin in June. The intial phase of the prject will involve installing two circuits north to the Highway 17 and AW intersection. Completion of this work will allow us to better allocate existing loads on the current single circuit while providing capacity for future growth in the area. The estimated completion of the phase of the project will be during the fall of this year. During this time, members served in this area will be subject to scheduled outages necessary to facilitate the construction. The scope and duration of these outages will be kept to a minimum and approved only when necessary to ensure the safety of the personnel performing the work. Also, if you are traveling in these areas please be aware of signs and flagging personnel associated with the project. Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciated. See map

COMPLETED JULY 2010. Currently Intercounty crews are performing a single phase to three phase line conversion along Highway MM between Fowler and Ben Davis. Completion of the project will allow existing loads in this area to be better and more efficiently served from the new three phase circuit. The project is scheduled to be completed during the summer of this year. See map

Intercounty Electric has an ongoing contract with C&H Contracting for system imporvements near and along V Highway in Phelps County. The work consists of installing one new circuit and extending another circuit from the cooperative's Macedonia substation north along Highway V. In addition, the project includes the single phase to three phase conversion of single phase circuits within this immediate area. The project will allow us to redistribute loads from the cooperative's Saint James and Veto substation in a manner that will reduce system losses and improve overall system reliability in this area. The projects are currently scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2010. See map

At this time Davey Resource Group is performing pole inspections and GIS/GPS services for the Cooperative on circuits out of our North Mountain Grove, Mountain Grove, Solo, and Cabool substations. These inspections are primarily associated with the sounding of our poles and the inspection of our existing facilities. The results of these inspections are used to identify poles that due to their condition require replacement in addition to other deficiencies that require maintenance. This type of work is a vital part of our maintenance program and increases the reliability of service that we are able to provide to our members. This work if part of an ongoing project which that would allow us to complete a system wide pole inspection during the next 5 years. Poles that require replacement are typically identified with a ribbon that is attached to the pole to make these pole more readily visible to the crews that replace the defective poles. Most commonly this work is done by Intercounty crews in a timely manner following the initial inspection.
The personnel performing this work utilize trucks to access the general area to be inspected. These trucks have decals that identify the name of the company and personnel are required to carry individual identification as an employee of Davey Resource Group. Once in an area these inspectors will utilize 4 wheelers to travel between poles within the general area allowing the work to be completed more quickly. Typically each pole will be inspected on two separate occasions, during the first inspection the pole is checked for soundness and a later inspection is used to identify GPS coordinates of each individual pole as well as the type of hardware installed at each location. This information is used to improve both the accuracy and level of detail in our system maps utilized by our crews during normal construction and maintenance activities as well as during outage situations.
