  • Beginning the week of December 25, 2011, contract crews from Kiowa Line Construction are performing a conductor upgrade to a 3 phase circuit out of our Safe substation in Phelps county north of St. James.  The work consists of replacing and increasing the conductor size on approximately 4.5 miles of line beginning near the intersection of Highways EE and B and extending east and north to the area north of the community of Royal.  This project will increase circuit capacity and system efficiency in this area.  During construction members in the area may be subject to scheduled outages necessary for the safety of our personnel performing this work.  The frequency and duration of any scheduled outages will be kept to a minimum.  Also if you are traveling in this area please be aware of equipment and personnel working on this project and please pay special attention to signage or flagging personnel in the project area.  Your patience and cooperation will be greatly appreciatedSee map

  • At this time Davey Resource Group is working out of the North Salem and Short Bend substations north of Salem as well as out of the Roby substation doing their pole inspections and performing GPS/GIS inventory work.  After East Rolla they will be working the Macedonia, West Rolla and Veto substations.  These inspections are primarily associated with the sounding of our poles and the inspection of our existing facilities.  The results of these inspections are used to identify poles that due to their condition require replacement in addition to other deficiencies that require maintenance.  This type of work is a vital part of our maintenance program and increases the reliability of service that we are able to provide to our members.  This work if part of an ongoing project which that would allow us to complete a system wide pole inspection during the next 5 years.  Poles that require replacement are typically identified with a ribbon that is attached to the pole to make these pole more readily visible to the crews that replace the defective poles.  Most commonly this work is done by Intercounty crews in a timely manner following the initial inspection.

The personnel performing this work utilize trucks to access the general area to be inspected.  These trucks have decals that identify the name of the company and personnel are required to carry individual identification as an employee of Davey Resource Group.  Once in an area these inspectors will utilize 4 wheelers to travel between poles within the general area allowing the work to be completed more quickly.  Typically each pole will be inspected on two separate occasions, during the first inspection the pole is checked for soundness and a later inspection is used to identify GPS coordinates of each individual pole as well as the type of hardware installed at each location.  This information is used to improve both the accuracy and level of detail in our system maps utilized by our crews during normal construction and maintenance activities as well as during outage situations.
